I am Jessica Färberkind, The Dyers’ Child. I'm an artist and I've discovered something for you. I love watching a plant grow from a seed, making my colors from it to paint. This is how I connect with nature and the source from which I come and will go to.

I started doing this in 2015, playfully like a child. It was an inner, strong impulse that I trusted after the birth of my own child. Making colors from plants is actually as old as mankind. However, the knowledge about it has been almost lost due to industrialization. Fortunately, I now live in a world in which many other dyers (interestingly, mainly women) are returning to our connection with nature and the production of colors from plants. This connects us across borders and cultures; also in the sevengardens network, where dyers from all over the world come together to experiment.

As the Dyers’ Child, I am not only rediscovering old traditions. I am fascinated by what modern science makes possible in the field of natural, renewable materials. With the support of the company Soarce, based in Florida, I have found a way to turn my lake pigments into vibrant inks, that amaze me every day. They work on paper, fabric, canvas, wood.
