Who and what is “The Dyers' Child®”?
Jessica Färberkind is an artist, natural color maker and workshop leader - a full-hearted botanical alchemist. Her artistic works reflect the connection between nature, mankind and everything for which there are as yet no words. Her works are created from self-developed plant colors, “The Dyers‘ Child® INKs”, which she produces from 100% natural raw materials in a process that is unique in the world. To give everyone the opportunity to create colors from their own lake pigments, Jessica has developed the “The Dyers’ Child® INK KIT” together with Soarce US. It’s available for order in Germany and the USA via this website. On Instagram you can find insights into the process and shared stories from those who bring the inks to life.

The story behind The Dyers' Child® - Colors from nature
-
Uniqueness
What makes these paints special is not only their brilliance, stability and versatility, but also their origin: they are made from 100% renewable raw materials. The formulas combine the ancient craft of pigment production with a completely new ecological process - an interplay of tradition, science, art and alchemy.
-
Impulse
The impetus for the development came from the USA in 2024: Florida-based Soarce, a company dedicated to the sustainable transformation of the textile industry, discovered that one of its liquids made from fruit and vegetables reacted unexpectedly with natural dyes. In order to understand the phenomenon, its founders sought contact with dyers worldwide and also wrote to Jessica.
-
Origin
In her studio in North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, she began experimenting and after a few weeks discovered something unexpected and astonishing: this liquid was able to liquefy her own plant pigments. From this, she developed a process that anyone in the world can use to produce a whole range of colors themselves using simple means and their own garden, flowers from the wayside, tree bark or various vegetables.
-
Research
Since then, Jessica has been continuously researching the further development and almost unlimited application possibilities of these colors. Her studio is located on the grounds of Hof Emschermündung in Dinslaken, where there is also a paradisiacal dye garden. The site is also home to the headquarters of the worldwide, UNESCO-certified sevengardens network, which is dedicated to education in the field of natural dyeing.
-
Distribution
Jessica now trains people in the method and works closely with a growing network of dyers who share their experiences on Instagram and regularly exchange ideas and results. In this way, an artistic experiment has evolved into an open, vibrant movement - driven by creativity, sustainability and the desire for a colorful future in harmony with nature.
-
Technology
In technical terms, “The Dyers' Child®” inks are based on so-called lake pigments - the most stable form of plant-based color, as used by ancient masters. These solids were long regarded as color-stable but not luminous. Thanks to Jessica's newly developed process, the original light from the plant is returned to the pigment. The result is a “refluid”, a light-containing aggregate state that is unique in the world and opens up completely new possibilities for color design.
