How we take responsibility for people and the environment:
-
Innovative - Sustainable - Tested - Selected
These four core values guide our actions. In the area of sustainability, we commit ourselves to clear criteria, openly identify challenges, and continuously work on improvements.
These principles are decisive for us:
Fair and equitable trade structures
Exclusion of child and forced labor
Safe and healthy working conditions
Strengthening regional producers
High naturalness of our products

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
In September 2015, the member states of the United Nations adopted the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” At its heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that promote sustainable development in ecological, social, and economic terms. They are aimed not only at governments, but also at educational institutions, businesses, and civil society.
A key component in achieving these goals is education for sustainable development (ESD). It empowers people to think and act in a sustainable manner. This is where sevengardens comes in: using plant-based dyes as a creative medium, sustainability becomes tangible and knowledge about nature and resource conservation is imparted in a practical way.
Back in 2010, sevengardens was recognized by the German UNESCO Commission (DUK) as a structurally effective measure and included in the National Action Plan for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). -
This is how we proceed:
We carefully select our suppliers and strive to source as many products as possible regionally and sustainably - or through our global sevengardens network.
Two specific examples:
To support regional producers and enable short supply chains, some of our sevengardens® products are manufactured in cooperation with Lebenshilfe e. V. in Dinslaken.
We source our dried cochineal from the small family business Cochinillas Guatiza on Lanzarote. The Betancort Gonzáles family has been cultivating cochineal exclusively by hand for over 50 years. No chemicals or treated water are used in the process -
Challenges in ecological and logistical terms:
We carry over 80 different products, and our range is constantly growing.
At the same time, we deliberately offer very small quantities so that you can try out our products at your leisure. However, this means that we have to assemble and package each order individually.
Some products, such as Miron violet glass jars, also require particularly careful packaging to prevent damage during transport.
Our 70 cm × 100 cm paper formats also have special requirements: for mixed shopping baskets, we have to use additional, identical shipping boxes to form a stable rectangular package. Otherwise, we would have to ship the papers separately and charge additional shipping cost -
We pay attention to this in our packaging:
Wherever possible, we use only FSC®-certified packaging material made of paper and cardboard.
We use paper tape to seal our packages.
Our labels are also made of paper.
We package powdered products in stand-up pouches made of kraft paper. These have high barrier properties and do not contain any harmful substances such as aluminum.
We use wood wool or paper as filling material.
For glass products, we use honeycomb paper as transport protection.
Of course, we are registered in the LUCID packaging register and participate in the dual system. We ship all packages with CO₂e-compensated shipping (DHL GoGreen). -
Why are other packaging materials used anyway?
Where appropriate, we also reuse packaging materials from our suppliers. From an ecological and economic point of view, we believe it is right to only dispose of packaging when it is damaged, dirty, or no longer functional.
For example, if a supplier's logo is on a shipping box, that is no reason for us not to reuse that box. The same applies to filling materials such as air cushions, bubble wrap, foam foil, or packaging chips.
Instead of disposing of these materials directly, we reuse them for our shipments. However, we do not purchase these materials new.
