-
Innovative - Sustainable - Tested - Exclusive
These are our 4 central core values. Here we would like to show you the criteria we are committed to in the area of sustainability, the challenges we face and how we meet them.
These criteria are decisive for us:
Fair and equitable trade structures and production conditions
No child and forced labor
Safe and healthy working conditions
The strengthening of regional producers
Only high product naturalness

Sustainabe Development Goals
In September 2015, the member states of the United Nations adopted the “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” At its core are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that promote sustainable development in ecological, social, and economic terms. They are aimed not only at governments, but also at educational institutions, businesses, and civil society.
A central component in achieving these goals is education for sustainable development (ESD). It aims to empower people to think and act in a sustainable manner. This is exactly where sevengardens comes in: it uses plant-based paints as a creative medium to bring sustainability to life and impart knowledge about nature and resource conservation.
Back in 2010, sevengardens was recognized by the German UNESCO Commission (DUK) as a structurally effective measure and included in the National Action Plan for Education for Sustainable Developement (ESD). -
This is how we proceed:
We select our suppliers carefully and try to source as many of our products as possible regionally and sustainably or from our worldwide sevengardens network partners.
Here are two specific examples:
In order to strengthen regional producers and keep supply chains as short as possible, some of our “products from sevengardens®” are produced in cooperation with Lebenshilfe e.V. in Dinslaken.
We obtain our dried cochineal from the small family business Cochinillas Guatiza on Lanzarote. The Betancort Gonzáles family has been growing and selling cochineal exclusively by hand for over 50 years. The use of chemicals or treated water is completely avoided. -
Challenges in ecological and logistical terms:
We stock over 80 different products and our range is constantly growing.
We also offer very small quantities that allow you to test our products. This also means that we have to pack all our products and orders individually.
Some of our products, such as the violet glasses from Miron, have to be specially packed to avoid damage in transit.
Our 70cm x 100cm papers have to be combined with one or three identical shipping boxes in a mixed shopping cart to form a rectangular package for shipping. Otherwise we would have to send the papers separately and charge you additional shipping costs. -
We pay attention to this in our packaging:
Where possible, we only buy FSC®-certified packaging material made from paper, cardboard and cartons.
We only use paper adhesive tape.
Our labels are also made of paper.
Our products in powder form are packed in stand-up pouches made of kraft paper. These have high barrier properties and are free of harmful chemicals such as aluminum.
Wood wool is used for filling material.
We use honeycomb paper as transport protection for our glass products.
We are of course registered in the LUCID packaging register and have a system participation contract in the dual system.
All parcels are sent via CO₂e-compensated shipping (DHL GoGreen). -
Why are other packaging materials used anyway?
We use the packaging material from our suppliers. We are convinced that it makes both economic and ecological sense to dispose of packaging materials only if they are damaged, soiled or defective. For example, if the logo of one of our suppliers is printed on a shipping carton, this is no reason for us to no longer use this shipping carton. The same applies to filling materials such as air cushions, bubble wrap, foam film or packaging chips. Instead of disposing of these directly, we reuse this material for our parcels. However, we do not buy these materials ourselves.
