Due to a huge increase in production costs, HEMPA was unfortunately forced to cease production at the end of December 2025. We deeply regret this, as the papers are excellent from both an ecological and a quality perspective and, thanks to their pH neutrality, are perfect for working with plant-based inks. We can therefore only offer you these special products while stocks last and would like to take this opportunity to thank the HEMPA team from the bottom of our hearts for their fantastic cooperation!

Since plant-based dyes are often altered by acids or bases, hemp paper is particularly suitable for reproducing plant-based dyes in a colorfast manner due to its pH neutrality.
Hemp paper has the special feature that the color is absorbed more intensively by some fibers. This creates an effect that corresponds to the naturalness of plant colors and is particularly appreciated by many dialogers.
Due to the long hemp fibers, the paper has a cloudy, soft surface structure and therefore also makes a very elegant and natural impression to the touch.
HEMPA papers are a premium product that is manufactured in Germany. The company attaches particular importance to the highest quality and environmentally friendly production.
HEMPA is a member of the RCE-Ruhr, winner of the German Sustainability Award 2021 and won the “creative impulse award” in the “Sustainable Product of the Year” category in 2024. HEMPA is also a member of “The Generation Forest eG” and thus supports the reforestation of tropical forests.
The papers with a grammage of 120 g/m² are already suitable for working with watercolor. However, if a lot of water is used, the paper may curl. After drying, it should be mostly flat again.
320 g/m² papers are ideal for watercolor work. Small dots can form, which are charmingly integrated into the motif. One side of the sheet is smooth, while the other side is slightly rougher.
You can find a detailed overview of the various wet techniques here.
Yes, hemp paper is biodegradable. It consists of natural fibers that decompose over time and are therefore environmentally friendly. This makes hemp paper a sustainable alternative to conventional paper, which is often chemically treated.
