Aluminum lactate produces very clear and bright colors. It is an alternative to aluminum acetate and alum as an additive when painting with juice colors to increase luminosity and durability, as well as a mordant for cellulose fibers.
Aluminum lactate is the aluminum salt of lactic acid. It is produced by fermentation and is usually used in the form of a spray for the local treatment of inflammatory and painful diseases of the mouth and throat.
For dyeing:
A pinch of "dye salt" is ideal to add to your juice colors, as aluminum lactate (unlike alum) dissolves easily in lukewarm water.
For mordanting:
Safe and easy for dyeing cotton, linen, hemp and viscose.
You can also use this mordant as a cold mordant for protein fibers, especially wool. It is a fantastic mordant for natural yellows and reds.
Use in a two-stage process for milder colors, first 10% tannin as the first mordant and only then the aluminum lactate with 5% of the fiber weight.
Use as a one-stage mordant aluminum lactate with 5% of the fiber weight for cellulose fibers. 50 g is enough for 1 kg of fabric. Leave your fabric in the cold mordant for at least 2 hours - preferably even overnight.
Hazard labeling:

Signal word: Warning
H315: Causes skin irritation.
H319: Causes serious eye irritation.
H335: May cause respiratory irritation.

Our additives are mineral or simple chemical substances for which there is generally no minimum shelf life. When stored in a dry place and tightly sealed, they can usually be kept for many years. It is particularly important to protect them from moisture, as otherwise they may clump together or change their properties. You will find storage instructions in the respective product or safety data sheets.
In our online shop, we can only offer you some basic information about our products. If you would like to delve deeper into the world of plant dyes and expand or deepen your knowledge, we recommend our workshops at Hof Emschermündung or with one of our globally active dialogue partners.
That depends on the additive in question. We have compiled the most important information in general terms for you in the safety instructions on the respective product page. For a detailed overview of each additive, please refer to our product or safety data sheets. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us directly.
